A bit about me.
I’ve enjoyed a varied and interesting career, crafting my communications, engagement, marketing and partnerships expertise through all sorts of projects and initiatives. I’ve worked in private, public sector and non-profit organisations, including Forestry England, the NHS (National Health Service), the UK’s leading breast cancer charity and Cancer Research UK (the world’s leading independent cancer research charity).
Constantly at the forefront of public engagement, I’ve designed and delivered everything from localised, community-based activities, and driving take up of stop smoking services, through to England’s national programme of cancer awareness campaigns alongside Public Health England, the Department of Health and NHS England. I’ve also led public relations for a range of IT and telecommunications clients.
I’ve worked with, and written for, healthcare professionals, local authorities, NHS Trusts, community leaders and local champions, public health leads and the general public to name but a few.
Now, after many years of devising and implementing complex projects and strategies for in-house positions, I share my knowledge and experience with others at the forefront of health, science communications and public engagement to support them to make a difference.
My Tangelo House colleague, Alexis Willett, and I have written two short, practical handbooks: Public Engagement Made Easy - 35 practical tips for success and Science Communication Made Easy - 50 practical tips for success. Aimed at arming anyone new to these fields with all the immediate ‘know-how’ you need to get started, each book is full of straight forward tips and advice to help steer you in the right direction.
